The Rock Cycle:
Say you start with magma. That magma cools and creates igneous rocks. An igneous rock can do one of three things: weather and erode, heat and pressure, or melt. If it weathers and erodes then it becomes a sediment rock. If it heats and pressures it becomes a metamorphic rock. Then, if it melts it turns back into magma. If it takes the Sediment rock route, then it compacts and cementizes, turning it into a sedimentary rock. That sedimentary rock can either weather and erode right back to a sedimentary rock or heat and pressurize into a metamorphic rock. Now, either from that or from an igneous rock heating and pressurizing, a metamorphic rock can either weather and erode back to a sedimentary rock or melt into magma. Therefore, in the end, when magma cools it becomes an igneous rock. When rocks weather and erode they become sedimentary rocks. If rocks compact and cementizes, they become sedimentary rocks. When rocks heat and pressurize they become metamorphic rocks. Finally, if rocks melt they become magma.
